American dreams
Remembering how to dream
We have forgotten how to dream. How to believe, against great odds, in a better future. What are we doing here? We have more power and ability than any past society yet our vision is fixed on the dog shit stuck to the bottom of our shoe. Our values remain standing on the shelf, just waiting for us to grab hold of them and run towards a future of greater freedom, justice, and love for the children of our neighbor.
This project asks thousands of Americans across the country to share a dream they have of the future. This can be societal or personal, specific or general, realistic or hopelessly romantic. They will receive a red, white, or blue postcard, write in their dream and their location, and send it back to be sewn together to those of their neighbors into a giant American flag. The flag then tours the country, offering inspiration for others to think bigger about the future of their communities.
