Hunting Hill Farm

For this commission, the clients approached me looking to capture the their 25-year experience living on their historic farm.  Forseeing the potential of their retirement and moving off the farm, they wanted something to remind them of their experiences on that bit of land.  I met with them several times to hear their stories of the place and to look through old photographic prints they had captured over the years.  The result was this mixed media work, incorporating pastel, acrylic paint, and marker along with photographic elements.  The collaged composition reflects the clients’ experience through various stages of their lives: young children grown and left on their own, gardens built then abandoned then re-established, field labyrinths evolving over time.  The broad color palette of dynamic marking recalls the vitality and gusto with which they approached any project they initiated.
